Healthy education for school lunches

ENG101

School lunches are the key essential in our children's nutrition. It is important that the their lunch consist of healthy nutrients for their body to grow. Unfortunatly, this is not the case. Their lunch looks more like a number one on the Mcdonald's menu meal then something more healthier. To stop this from happening school systems need a crash course on nutrition and dieting so that they can help educate our children on their health.

School lunch on an everyday basis can consist of beef, pasta and chicken. There is very little vegetables served and the one's that are served are not very appetizing. If the taste does not appeal to our kids, it will be hard for them to eat it. Therefore, they miss out on certain nutrients you get from eating vegetables. The amount of unhealthy foods that are available to our kids can help to lead them to a path of obesity. The center for disease control show's how childhood obesity has increase more than 17% since 2006. This number is going up as the years go by. This is cause by the unhealthy choices children are making when they are eating. They choose to go for the hamburger instead of a salad or soda instead of water or milk. It is important for the schools to be educated on dieting and also help educate our kids on dieting.

To help educate our children every school should mandate kids to take a course on nutrition. Children should know what they are eating and what are the most important things to maintain their health. They need to see vivid pictures of clogged arteries and to fully understand what different ailments they can get when making unhealthy food choices, such as diabetes. Physical education is taught in school but it is not enforce. For example; my niece takes gym in school but they do nothing. She explains how they just sit around and talk and their teacher doesen't demand that they do a physcial activity. As long as they show up to class they can pass. This should be changed, every child should know the importance of excercise and should know how to play at least one sport. This will be hard to enforce because the school system is not educated on teaching kids to maintain a healthy diet.

School lunch programs are run by the state. Each state should make sure that every school meets the requrment of health education. They should force schools to setup programs to help children and their families so that they can understand what a healthy diet consist of. Each school should at least have one nutrionist and a gourment chef, to help with preparing good heatlthy tasteful meals that children will enjoy. The state needs to require teachers to go to classes to help educate them on the importance of health. Each school should cut out some vending machines or make the price so high that the students will not want to buy anything. If all of these actions are put together then children can live a healthier lifestyle.

Food education in the school is lacking. Our children are increasingly becoming overweight, because of their lack of heaalthy food choices. They need this education in school, because this is where their education comes from. The school needs to lead by example, by giving our children more healthier choices instead of the same chicken, pasta and beef.
